The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency
Due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), Congress enacted Maintenance of Eligibility (MOE) provisions to keep individuals enrolled in the Medicaid program until the pandemic ends. Some states also waived certain aspects of eligibility to reduce the administrative burden during the PHE. When the PHE ends, states will need to conduct redeterminations and renewals that could lead to a potential loss of benefits.
