A Letter of Intent - A Deep Dive (2021)

NAELA Annual Conference 2021
Addresses what a Letter of Intent is and the steps recommended to create one for a person with special needs. As a caregiver of a dependent with special needs the single most important issue on your mind, regardless of the age of the dependent, is what will happen to my dependent after I’m gone. The letter of intent, though not legally binding can assist the family in knowing their wishes for their loved one will be carried out. The letter of intent will include the people, places, and services the dependent with special needs requires. There are some needs that will always be present and they must be carefully considered and planned for appropriately. This workshop will give the remaining caregivers a guide to follow. You will learn about the ways to complete the Letter of Intent, available resources, and necessary tools to help develop this plan. A Letter of Intent is a guide for future caregivers in making the most appropriate life decisions for their dependent and helping to provide direction to their trustee in fulfilling his or her fiduciary responsibilities. We will discuss not only what should be contained but can help ensure the type of care and quality of life for your loved one’s well-being today and tomorrow. 2021 Annual Conference
