Keynote speakers
Howard Gleckman, author of Caring for Our Parents: Inspiring Stories of Families Seeking New Solutions to America’s Most Urgent Health Crisis, will present “State and Federal Policy Initiatives in Long-Term Care
Finance and Delivery.” Mr. Gleckman is a resident fellow at The Urban Institute, where he is affiliated with the Tax Policy Center and the Program on Retirement Policy. He also writes a tax and budget policy blog, TaxVox, available to read at Forbes.com or at http://taxvox.taxpolicycenter.org/. Before joining Urban, Mr. Gleckman was a senior correspondent in the Washington bureau of Businessweek.
Gene Coffey, Technical Director in CMS’s Division of Medicaid Eligibility Policy, will present “Current and New Directions of CMS Regarding Long-Term Care.” The Medicaid program plays a critical role in the delivery of long-term services and supports to millions of Americans. The program is faced, however, with numerous challenges, such as the effort to make home and community-based services equally accessible with institutional services, addressing the complexity of the eligibility rules, and ensuring the financial integrity of the program. Mr. Coffey will provide an overview of the agency’s work to address these issues.
