Mark your calendar to be in Chicago for the 2018 Summit with a 1:00 p.m. kick off on Thursday, November 15, featuring keynote speaker, Judge Richard A. Posner, and concluding mid-day on Saturday, November 17. This year’s Summit will feature three learning tracks:

  • Guardianship
  • Special Needs Planning
  • Practice Management (including Drafting) …plus more.

Here’s what you can expect at the 2018 Summit

  • Distinguished faculty member at the University of Chicago Law School, highly regarded judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and prolific author (including his book, Aging and Old Age, University of Chicago Press 1995), Judge Richard A. Posner shares his thoughts on current issues confronting this country and the legal system.
  • NAELA Past President, Brad Frigon, CELA, CAP, will explain how the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017 created a 20 percent deduction for a pass-through entity with qualified business income.
  • Judith Stein, Executive Director and founder of Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc. will share the latest on Medicare and related issues.
  • Practice Management session, “From Zero to Hero: Growing and Sustaining a Vibrant Legal Practice”
  • NAELA Past President, Catherine Seal, CELA, and Ben Orzeske, Uniform Law Commission, will present, “The Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Other Protective Arrangements Act Coming to a State Near You.”
  • Become familiar with actual medical cases and how the medical team addressed bioethical issues at “Advanced Directive Horror Stories — Tales from the ER, LTC Facilities, Doctor’s Offices, and so on ...,” presented by practicing attorney Amy P. Delaney, CELA, CAP; Lisa Anderson-Shaw, DPh, MA, MSN; and Terri Maxeiner, RN.
  • “A SNT Is Only the Beginning ... Developing a Family Plan When an Infant with Special Needs Receives a Lawsuit Recovery,” presented by Attorney Michele P. Fuller, Esq.
