Description:  According to a recent AARP report, One out of six nursing home residents with dementia are still being administered antipsychotic drugs they don’t need. And doing so could be fatal to them. This session will cover the law regarding the use of chemical restraints in long-term care facilities and informed consent as well as practical steps you can take to prevent your client from being harmed. 
Topics include:
  • How to detect and act when you suspect use of chemical restraints
  • Understanding the law of informed consent
  • To what extent advance planning documents should cover this issue
