Lunch & Learn | Free to Members A sole benefit trust (SBT) is a powerful but misunderstood tool in the Medicaid planning toolbox. A common error (either by practitioners or imposed by state agencies) is the notion that an SBT must provide reimbursement to the state for Medicaid benefits paid to the beneficiary upon the death of the beneficiary (or a “payback provision”).
