NAELA Supports SSA National “Slam the Scam” Day

Washington, DC — The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) supports the Social Security Administration’s National “Slam the Scam Day” on March 5, 2020, to raise public awareness of government imposter telephone scams across the country.

This initiative is part of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s “National Consumer Protection Week,” March 1-7, 2020.  Order free consumer education materials on the Federal Trade Commission website and read the latest from consumer protection experts.

“NAELA member attorneys are dedicated to protecting older Americans and people with special needs from scams like this. Too often these vulnerable populations fall victim to this form of financial abuse, resulting in the loss of their hard-earned money. By working together to raise awareness of these scams and reporting them to the SSA’s Office of the Inspector General, we can protect them and prevent further loss,” said NAELA President Jennifer L. VanderVeen, CELA, CAP, NAELA Fellow.
