State List of Electronic Notary Updates

Due to COVID-19, many states have lifted restrictions on in-person notarization of legal documents and allowed for remote notarization. This page lists all the governors' orders, secretary of states' rules, and prior legislation introduced by states on the issue of remote notarization. Certain states, including Virginia and Tennessee, previously passed senate and house bills that allowed for remote notarization of legal documents. Scroll below to see updates on your state. This page continues to be updated amid COVID-19.

NAELA has also formed a working group on the issue of remote notarization, so that members may connect and share information. If you are interested in being part of the work group, email Erica Asbell, Public Policy Associate for State Chapters, at [email protected]
