American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) - Tax Section

AICPA is the national, professional organization of certified public accountants comprised of more than 350,000 members.

Building a sense of Community among CPA financial planners

Enhancing Competency of CPAs who provide personal financial planning services

The AICPA mission is to provide members with the resources, information, and leadership that enable them to provide valuable services in the highest professional manner to benefit the public as well as employers and clients.

The AICPA’s Tax Section provides additional tax practice tools and aids, resources, and guidance to help tax practitioners elevate their practices and maintain the highest ethical standards. Tax Section membership helps practitioners stay up to date on legislative changes, developing tax issues, and newly evolving tax planning strategies, plus helps practitioners make their practices more efficient and build deeper client relationships with access to member-only resources, technical guides, exclusive e-alerts and much more!

Practice Support
The AICPA supports its members’ practices with the comprehensive and annually updated tax practice guides and checklists. Tax Section members have access to a variety of technical resources including checklists, sample letters, tax organizers and engagement letters, practice guides, and analysis on key issues.  As a Tax Section member, practitioners are part of a community of more than 25,000 CPAs who use the member-only information and resources on everything from guidance on new legislation to tips on increasing practice efficiency. The members gain access to:
  • Free and Discounted Tax-Related Webcasts (monthly Tax Power Hour Webcast)
  • Section-Only E-Alert Newsletter
  • Exclusive Discounts ($100 on tax-related conferences)
  • The Tax Adviser (12 issues for $30)
The AICPA supports both the public interest and its members by advocating sound tax policy and effective tax administration. The AICPA's ability to shape tax regulations and laws means a more workable tax system for practitioners and taxpayers. Some of the key issues that we are working on include: income tax simplification, net investment income tax regulations, permanent tax relief for disaster victims and interstate tax compliance (mobile workforce).

Professional Standards & Ethics
Resources are provided to help AICPA members maintain the highest professional standards in tax practice.

Technical Resource Panels
The Tax Section also has a variety of volunteer resource panels, such as the Trust, Estate, and Gift Tax Technical Resource Panel, that assist in developing comments to Congress and IRS and Treasury, and in developing products and services for members in specific areas.
