2017 Annual Conference: Freedom

In this revolutionary spirit, NAELA's 2017 Annual Conference will focus not only on information and updates you will need to counsel and advocate for your clients' best "today," but will also provide a glimpse into the future.

For over 25 years, NAELA's Annual Conference has provided Elder and Special Needs Law professionals an unparalleled opportunity to learn, discover, and succeed in the field. NAELA members and speakers have helped define this area of law and at this year’s Annual Conference, you'll engage with thought-provoking speakers, experience cutting-edge Continuing Legal Education programming designed to help you expand your outlook, and sharpen the skills and knowledge you need to excel in your practice.  And the 2017 Annual conference plans are no different. The emphasis of the Annual Conference is emerging research, changes in the law and best practices and connecting NAELA members across the country with other NAELA experts.

Who should attend this conference? Anyone who practices elder law and special needs planning should not miss NAELA's Annual Conference. This year's annual conference is packed with interactive learning for practical application, collaborating, and networking with fellow practitioners (on and off-site), and educational opportunities to learn the latest on emerging research in the field of elder law and special needs planning.

Why is NAELA offering this conference? This conference is designed to cover a wide range of topics and a wide range of complexities to ensure that participants can meet the needs of their clients in these areas of the law. NAELA's 2017 Annual Conference provides practitioners an opportunity to stay current on a variety of issues impacting elder law and special needs planning.

What can you expect at the 2017 Annual Conference? The 2017 Annual Conference kicks off with a keynote session, The Future of Aging, with Dennis Lally and Reed Hayes, who will discuss how advanced technologies such as robotics, virtual reality, 3D printing, and genomics will change the way humans age.

Technology also impacts elder law and special needs planning attorneys when clients have valuable digital assets. Fiduciaries' Access to Digital Assets will discuss trends on how fiduciaries are encountering special issues with access and disposition of digital property on a daily basis - are you and your clients prepared?

Practical sessions like State Law Matters: Practical Information About Drafting Trusts and State Laws will review current law so that attorneys can understand the extent to which federal Medicaid law preempts state trust law.

And like it or not, the practice of law is changing, with interdisciplinary practice, ancillary services and work being done by non-lawyers. Continuing Evolution in a Changing Environment: Redefining the Practice of Elder Law will explore these changes and how to chart the future for your practice.
