NAELA Foundation Hosts Successful Trivia Night and Raises Funds to Support Critical Issues

By Faith Boettger Published July 2020
On June 25, 78 NAELA members, family and friends, divided onto 15 teams to match wits against each other and Trivia MC extraordinaire, NAELA Past President Jennifer VanderVeen, CELA, CAP, Fellow. Over the course of five rounds, guests completed the list, learned new Swedish swear words, found out which of their teammates reads People and history books, and challenged their memory for songs and artists – all while supporting the Foundation’s mission to advocate for the rights of older Americans and people with disabilities.

“A great time was had by all at the trivia event while raising money for the Foundation. It was wonderful to spend time virtually with old friends and new friends. While the pandemic may keep us physically apart right now, it is not diminishing the strong community that exists within NAELA. Due to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the people we serve, the continued support of the NAELA Foundation will be extremely important,” said NAELA President Wendy Cappelletto, CAP.

In addition to individual and team registration fees, participants purchased trivia experts to add to their knowledge, and team captains launched a spontaneous (and successful!) matching challenge to support the Foundation’s advocacy, litigation, and education efforts.

“The most fantastic part of the evening, over and above the treasure trove of truly useless data that will now cloud my brain for weeks, is the support every single participant brought to the Foundation; not just in the dollars raised (which was fantastic!) but in the camaraderie and fellowship (not to mention silliness) that was there,” said NAELA Foundation Chair Stuart D. Zimring, CAP, Fellow.
