2013 Basics Workshop: May 1 – A Preprogram Event
Are you thinking about expanding your current practice or interested in gaining a basic understanding of Elder and Special Needs Law? The Basics Workshop is a one-day event that is tailored to provide you with a solid overview of Elder Law. More than 75 attended the Basics Workshop last year.
The following breakout sessions are scheduled for this program:
• How to Start your Practice and Manage It
• Medicaid Fundamentals
• Dealing with Incapacity: Guardianship, Elder Abuse and Ethics
• There is No Place Like Home – But There Are Options
• VA Basics: From the Law to Attorney Certification
• Estate Planning - Asset Protection, Uncompensated Transfers and Trusts
• Special Needs Trusts and Sample Scenarios
• How to Make Money Practicing Elder Law
• Basics of Tax For An Elder Law Practice
Networking and Social Activities
Among the many reasons attorneys attend NAELA programs is the opportunity to network with others in the Elder and Special Needs Law field. NAELA has worked to bring the following opportunities to build camaraderie with colleagues and meet other NAELA members. Here is a list of some of the activities:
• Thursday evening cocktail reception. (cost of reception is included with your Annual Conference Registration/Spouse passes available.)
• Section Breakfast Buffet Look for the tables reserved for NAELA’s Section members providing an opportunity for networking among your fellow section members. Not a section member, use this chance to get to know what the sections have to offer.
• Exhibit Hall. A hands-on opportunity to learn about services and products for Elder and Special Needs Law Attorneys.
• Section Dine-A-Rounds. Spend time with fellow section members over dinner. Sections are taking signups if you are interested in going out to dinner with your section (dining expenses are on your own.)
• GA Ambassador Dine-A-Rounds. Members of the GA Chapter will be coordinating attendees to their favorite Atlanta area restaurants.
• Make Your Own Experience. Time is built into the agenda on Friday engage in social activities with opportunities to explore one of Atlanta’s attractions (i.e., CNN Center, GA Aquarium, World of Coke, etc.)
• If that is not enough, look for NAELA members wearing an Ambassador ribbon. These members want to make themselves available to attendees who would like to learn more about NAELA and/or Elder Special Needs Law.
