NAELA Advocacy: Where Our Members Make a Difference!
Enhancing the lives of individuals as they age and those with special needs has always been at the heart of NAELA's mission. From the birth of the organization, NAELA members have understood that progress toward that goal could never happen unless Elder Law and Special Needs Law attorneys translated their individual advocacy efforts into the broader scope of public policy.
NAELA's approach to public policy has developed over the years to reflect the fluctuating interests among its members in federal and state legislative activities. There has been a growing desire to educate lawmakers regarding the challenges facing our clients, particuarly when their best interests have been in jeopardy, as well as explaining the role that attorneys play in their clients' lives.
NAELA's members have diverse opinions on specific policy issues, but the advocacy process that has been established has strengthened member participation in the policy arena and enhanced the quality of issues analysis.
On these pages you can contact your elected officials and the media, research public policy relating to Elder Law and Special Needs Law, and learn how you can get more involved in NAELA's advocacy efforts. NAELA's Advocacy Action Center allows you to track legislation, and contact your elected officials and members of the media about current bills.
NAELA established its Senior Rights Political Action Committee in 2004, and it has supported both Democrats and Republicans who have met criteria set forth by the PAC's Board of Directors. To learn more about the PAC and its successes, please click here.
