NAELA Special Needs Leadership Award
Renee Wallace, Houston, Texas, is the winner of the second NAELA Special Needs Leadership Award. The award will be presented at NAELA's 2011 Annual National Conference on Friday, May 20, in Las Vegas, Nevada..
The Special Needs Leadership Award recognizes the recipient’s life and work for the benefit of people with special needs. The award is also given to a person with special needs who is making significant contributions to society on a national level. The award includes a monetary contribution in the recipient’s name to a charitable organization with whom the award recipient has worked closely.
The award is designed to encourage and promote activism and involvement by people with special needs or for the betterment of the lives of people with special needs. NAELA Members can nominate a person who meets the following criteria:
- The candidate must have made a significant contribution to those with special needs on a national level in the form of sustained exemplary service, or as a result of an outstanding single achievement or public service. Or, the candidate is a person with special needs who is making an outstanding contribution to society on a national level in the form of sustained exemplary service, or as a result of an outstanding single achievement or public service.
- The candidate must have demonstrated by actions, his or her commitment to improving the lives of those with special needs or the lives of others in society.
- The candidate’s contributions must have been made within the United States or its territories.
- The candidate may not be a member of NAELA.
The 2011 Special Needs Leadership Award will be presented in November 2011 at the NAELA Advanced Fall Institute in Las Vegas, Nev.
