Who We Are
Welcome to the National Guardianship Network’s (NGN) Public Information Portal Website.  The National Guardianship Network is a collaborative group of national organizations dedicated to effective adult guardianship law and practice. First convened in 2002, the National Guardianship Network has played a leadership role in advancing guardianship standards, best practices, and education.

This website is designed to inform policy makers and the general public on developments impacting on guardianship and conservatorship in the United States of America. NGN will periodically post articles, reports, and other information to provide educational resources for the benefit of those with interest in guardianship and conservatorship.

Guardianship (or “conservatorship” as it is known in some jurisdictions), is a state-specific legal process. Guardianship is utilized when a person can no longer make or communicate safe or sound decisions about his/her person and/or property. It can also be used if a person could become a victim to fraud or undue influence. Because establishing a guardianship may remove considerable rights from an individual, it should only be considered after alternatives to guardianship have proven ineffective or are unavailable.
